University of Montana Western

The University of Montana Western is a four-year public university founded in Dillon in 1893. Originally a teacher’s college, Montana Western now features degrees in many areas including guiding and outfitting and natural horsemanship. Bannack State Park

The site of Montana’s first gold discovery, Bannack State Park contains 60 buildings that remain from the original town. Visitors can visit this ghost town, which was one of the original seats of government for the state.

Crystal Park

Crystal Park is a unique recreation area at an elevation of 7,800 feet in the Pioneer Mountains in southwest Montana. Crystal hunters enjoy the beauty of the Pioneer Byway while discovering geological treasures. Crystal Park is open seasonally for day use only and has a fee per car. The universally accessible facilities include picnic sites with tables and grills, information signs, toilets, and a paved trail with benches and an overlook.

Wise River

Wise River is surrounded by a half-million acres of peaks, lakes and headwaters in the Pioneer Mountains and offers some of Montana’s most breathtaking scenery.
